What is DAA score?
A counter that rises with every block, used as Kaspa's network clock.
The DAA score is a number that increases by roughly one for every block added to the Kaspa network. DAA stands for Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm, the part of the protocol that keeps blocks arriving at the target rate.
Why it's useful
Because blocks arrive at a steady rate, the DAA score works as a network clock. At 10 blocks per second it rises by about 10 every second, roughly 864,000 per day.
- Scheduling upgrades. Hard forks activate at a set DAA score rather than a calendar date. The Toccata hard fork, for example, was scheduled for DAA score 474,165,565.
- Emission. The monthly block reward reductions are tied to DAA score.
- Measuring block rate. Our live dashboard measures Kaspa's real block rate by watching how fast the DAA score climbs.
DAA score vs blue score
The DAA score counts blocks in the DAG used for difficulty. The blue score counts only the blue blocks in a block's history under GHOSTDAG. Both rise over time and both are shown on the Kaspa explorer.
